Youth Work
The purpose of this committee is to collaborate with the Youth Council Executive Committee to plan and coordinate the programs for the Youth Council, train the Youth Council officers, and provide experiences that educate youth about the civil rights and social issues facing our nation today.
In addition to monthly meeting attendance and standing committee presentations, Council members are involved in other activities designed to promote educational achievement, develop leadership skills, and increase the Council members’ awareness of the problems facing African Americans and other minorities, as well as their knowledge of the contributions of African Americans to our nation.
The Youth Council works closely with branch members on several events throughout the year: NAACP/ACT-SO Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast; Life Membership Banquet; “Community Celebration of Scholars” program; WJCC School Board Candidates’ Forum; and the Branch Annual Meeting.
The York-James City-Williamsburg NAACP Youth Council continues to develop strong leaders, civil rights activists, and proactive citizens, and the Youth Work Committee continues to support everything they do.
