About The Committee
the “Freedom Fund” represents the resources the branch uses to support its mission to ensure the political, educational, social, economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination.
Some of those resources are through:
Annual Banquet/Gala
Scholarship Drives & Initiatives
Annual Golf Tournaments
Silent Auctions
SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE
The Scholarship Committee oversees the distribution, review and awarding of the Branch scholarships to graduating high school students in the York-James City-Williamsburg community. The Committee also sponsors the “Celebration of Scholars”, held typically the first Saturday in June, to allow community organizations and churches to present their scholarships and awards in an open forum with family and friends.
The Civic Engagement Committee works toward increased voter empowerment ethics through voter registration, voter education, voter turnout and continually providing information about crucial legislation on the state and national levels affecting the civil rights of African Americans and other citizens. The committee monitors, responds, and educates voters about shifting/developing Virginia voter identification requirements. This is done by partnering with other non-partisan groups in our voter empowerment efforts, and supporting social justice causes consistent with the NAACP mission.
